INTBAU Norway

INTBAU is a worldwide organization dedicated to the support of traditional building, the maintenance of local character and the creation of better places to live. We are creating an active network of individuals and institutions who design, make, maintain, study or enjoy traditional building, architecture and places.

INTBAU has 35 national chapters and 7000 members internationally.

INTBAU Norway is an association, aiming to bring together practitioners, academics, community leaders and general supporters in order to promote the values of traditional architecture and design and try to find together solutions for the major challenges concerning the built environment.

INTBAU Norway was set up by Audun Engh and Arne Søda in 2006l. For our conferences and study tours, we welcome participants from all over the globe.

SOME OF OUR PROJECTS:

In collaboration with INTBAU Romania, the Norwegian chapter has initiated several workshops in Transylvania, including two Traditional Masonry Summer Schools.

Our project partners in Romania have included The Kalnoky Foundation, the ADEPT Foundation and MET- Mihai Eminescu Trust. For several of our annual projects in Romania, we have received EEA, EU and Norwegian government funding.

We have also been a partner in a heritage preservation project in Budapest, Hungary, 2015 -2016.

From 2021, we are the Norwegian partner in four EEA-funded cultural heritage projects in Poland.

Together with INTBAU Cuba, INTBAU Norway has co-organized several study tours to Cuba, and Urban Design workshops in Havana, most recently in February 2017.

Study tour of reconstruction projects and new traditional development have been held in Germany (Berlin, Dresden and Potsdam) 2010, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019).

Paris, London, Rome, Milan and Malta study tours were held 2011 – 2018. We also co-organized a study tour to Krakow, Poland, May 2014, and annual events in Romania 2015 – 2019

Plans for 2021-2022 include participation in events in Germany, UK, Sweden, Romania, Cuba, France and US. We are also planning an INTBAU Norway conference on urbanism and architecture, in Norway June 2022.
